Ten couples competed to win a wife-carrying contest at Hereford Racecourse in the UK this week. The 50-metre dash was held as part of the venue’s annual Beer and Cider day.

Under the race rules, women can be carried piggyback style, in a fireman’s lift, or upside down with their legs around the man’s shoulders and arms around his waist.

Oliver Milligan who carried girlfriend Christina Davies to victory said: “That is 24 stones worth of beer. I don’t even drink much really, but I’m sure Christina will have a good go.”

A quick trip to Google reveals that 24 stones = 336 pounds, which is 5,376 ounces, divided by 12 is 448 U.S. 12-ounce cans.

Not a bad haul for the couple.

Pardon us please, while we pay for beer...
