Like most beer drinkers I look forward to March and St. Patrick’s day as an excuse to get sloppy. But it’s also an excuse to try some beers with an Irish heritage that you may not always drink on a regular basis.

For St. Patrick’s Day every year the buddies got together and honor our favorite saint by drinking ourselves into a stupor that would make any off-the-boat Irishman proud.

I have had a good deal of Murphy’s Irish Red in my day- and in my nights. For the most part it’s been the draft version as served in a dark, dank Irish Pub. It’s dry, crisp and hoppy with a rich red hue.

It was the kind of day you can’t plan–it just evolved organically. And Harp Lager was the centerpiece of our whole misguided adventure.

I enjoy having a selection of Irish beers to choose from when the St. Patrick’s Day parade comes through my town. It is because of this that I stumbled across Caffrey’s Irish Ale a few years back while trying to stock the shelves with some variety from Ireland.
