DATELINE: December 5: On this date in 1933, the 21st amendment to the Constitution of the United States was ratified- the eighteenth article of the Constitution was hereby repealed and the noble experiment known as prohibition was no more. Personally, we here at The Belly think that this should be a national holiday (a “shit face day” as comedian Kevin King would put it).
If you’ve never seen it, the Ken Burns documentary Prohibition tells the story of the rise, rule, and fall of the Eighteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and the entire era it encompassed.
