Recycled Beer Bottle Glasses: Functional Trash

Windy City Glass are purveyors of some unique glassware. They sell 6 packs (or fewer) of Recycled Beer Bottle Drinking Glasses, including brands like Grolsh, Fat Tire, Rolling Rock, Heineken and Mickey’s.

The process starts by cleaning and placing bottles into an oven to warm up. Once the bottle is hot enough they attach a rod with glass on it to the bottom of it. The bottle is then heated and reshaped into it’s new form in something called–and I am not joking here–a glory hole furnace.  After shaping, the new glass is placed back into the oven to cool slowly.

The glasses are safe to drink from and are dishwasher safe.  The size and shape very slightly from glass to glass because of the glassblowing process.

I own a mixed four-pack of glasses like this that I picked up somewhere… they are a neat way to drink a beer.
