Before I grill, I typically scrub the gunk from yesterday (or last week) off my barbecue grate with a brass brush. You know the brush… we all have the same one. It’s got brass bristles and metal tabs on the head that are supposed to help scrape the tough stuff from the grate tines. They usually don’t quite get the job done because they can’t get to the bottom of things.

This is not a bad idea at all. The scrapers on the edge of my brush can’t do the bottom and I’m tired of getting my hands filthy touching the grates.
