Competitive eater Joey Chestnut has held on to his title and the Yellow Mustard belt at the 95th annual Fourth of July hot dog eating contest at New York’s Coney Island.
Chestnut chomped down on 54 hot dogs in 10 minutes on Sunday to win the annual Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest for the fourth year in a row. 54 is about 50 more than I could eat in 10 minutes, but it’s less than the record he set last year of 68.
In a bizarre twist that we don’t quite understand, six time champion Takeru Kobayashi–Joey’s biggest rival–tried to crash the celebration and has been taken into custody.
Kobayashi, who was not competing this year (tummy trouble?) went on stage after the competition. Police officers grabbed him, and he tried to hold onto police barricades as they took him into custody.
Holy crap! I just saw an interview with Joey Chestnut on Fox 5 in NY… the guy is pulling down $150K a year EATING! I’m in the wrong field.
