Which Bud’s for You?

On the heels of promotion of it’s new "B-to-the-E" beer infused with caffeine, guarana and ginseng, St. Louis based Anheuser-Busch announced yesterday that it will launch Budweiser Select, a "new kind of beer" that is brewed for a "crisp taste with no aftertaste."

Budweiser Select has 3.1 grams of carbohydrates, 99 calories and 4.3 percent alcohol by volume per 12 oz. serving. In contrast, Michelob Ultra has 96 calories, is 4.1 percent alcohol by volume and has a scant 2.9 grams of carbohydrates per 12-oz. serving. Bud Light has 110 calories and 6.6 grams of carbs.

So as to not interfere too much with Anheuser-Busch’s own Michelob Ultra, the press release is carefull to not actually promote this as a low-carb beer, directing your attention more to its "eye-catching graphics, and unique ‘pinch neck’ bottle." Budweiser Select is promoted as a "sophisticated, upscale beer for all drinking occasions."

Of course, in the same typical, confusing way that Miller and Budweiser have been promoting each others beers in their television ads, Miller released an even more confusing press release that begins by stating "Miller Brewing Co. today said it applauded Anheuser-Busch’s formal announcement that it will nationally roll out a new Budweiser," but goes on to denounce the new beer in saying "Bud Select is a clear admission that Anheuser-Busch knows it has real disadvantages with original Bud and Bud Light."

Budweiser Select will be introduced with a television ad on the Feb. 6 Super Bowl broadcast on FOX. The new brew will be available nationwide Feb. 21. - AuthorPosts
