Irish on St. Patrick’s Day

I am writing an essay for a scholorship which asks the question "Why does everybody want to be Irish on St. Patrick’s Day?" I have some of my own ideas, including, "The Irish emmigrated to Idaho, where they proceed to grow potatoes to this very day." And a little bit of how the Irish can get through much hardships with our famous cheer. Also, some little history facts. I just wanted to bounce the idea around with other people. Thankyou!
