University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill scientists have reported ? for the first time ? a burst in new brain cell development during abstinence from chronic alcohol consumption.<br />

This article might be for egg-heads only, but the jist of it is that lab rats that "stopped drinking" for 5 weeks had "a pronounced increase in new neuron formation in the hippocampus. This included a twofold burst in brain cell proliferation at day seven of abstinence."<br />
<br />
We think to fully understand the article we would need to stop drinking for 5 weeks. But this is great news for those of us who have been been drinking for so long that we, er… what was I saying?<br />
