PRAGUE, Czech Republic (UPI) — Citizens of the Czech Republic last year drank more beer, per capita, than citizens of any other nation, the Czech Union of Breweries said Tuesday.<br />

Last year, the per capita beer consumption in the Czech Republic, home of the famed Pilsner beer, reached 340 quarts, or nearly a quart of beer per day, Itar-Tass reported. That was more than twice the consumption of their nearest competitor, Ireland, where per capita intake was 154 quarts.<br />
<br />
The Czech’s closest competitors last year, besides the Irish, were Germans and Austrians, whose per capita beer consumption amounted to 130 quarts, and 119 quarts, respectively.<br />
