Just happend to stumble across this site…great stuff and making me really hungry. I’m surprised I’m the first one to talk Chicago hot dogs though. I’m no expert, but grew up there so I’m at least passionate about them

Demon Dogs, under the El tracks on Fullerton Ave is a classic, as is Goldcoast dogs downtown in the Loop. Superdawg on Milwaukee is really good too, and the restuarant building itself is something to be seen.

But just about any little (the Greek-owned ones tend to be the best) sandwich shop can do a proper Chicago-style dog: mustard, onions, radioactive-green relish, dill pickle spear, tomato slices, sport peppers, and (the key that brings it all together) a sprinkle of celery salt.

Ketchup is for tourists and little kids. Some places keep it under the counter so you have to ask for it (that way they can see if you’re going to use it on your fries, or to defile your hotdog).

And of course, it’s all Vienna Beef hotdogs in Chicago…

Later,
John
