Tapatio Salsa Picante

Tapatio Salsa Picante
By Belly Buddy David Lauterbach

TapatioTapatio Salsa Picante has been around since 1971 and I've come across it several times. This Mexican hot sauce really doesn't do it for me one way or the other, but it's not a bad sauce. Tapatio has got it's kick in the right place. No es suave, sino que no es ése caliente.

I've always found most Mexican "taco" sauce lacking something... they all seem to taste like Taco Bell hot sauce packets. Tapatio rises above that level a bit, considerably stronger than what might be a legally heat-restricted Taco Bell packet. Red pepper generates thhe heat in this sauce, but water is listed first in the ingredients on this bottle... hmmm.

This isn't a typical local, gimicky hot sauce company either... they run a 30,000 square foot facility in Vernon, California. They bottle 5, 10 & 32oz containers.
