This recipe is meant to compliment our Deep Fried Turkey but can be enjoyed separately.
Hey y’all, thought you might like a little holiday hint to compliment your turkey recipe. While your bird is frying, whip up a batch of hush-puppie batter (I prefer to mix hot peppers into mine, cajun style). Jiffy makes a good mix if yer lazy. If ya want to give it a shot yourself and ya ain’t gotta G-ma to ask, here’s how.
- Ingredients:
- 1 cup yellow stone-ground corn meal
- 1 tsp. double-acting baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2-3 tsps. of minced onions or hot peppers
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup milk
For a dozen or so hush puppies, Beat 1 egg into 1/2 cup milk. Combine the yellow stone-ground corn meal, baking powder, salt, and minced onions or hot peppers and mix into a batter. Scoop the batter into the desired size for your hush puppies (2″ diameter) and drop into the turkey fryer and cook until golden brown or a little darker.
TIP! make sure there is enough room in your fryer to drop four or five mixes without touching the sides or the bird.
